Patient Care Resources

We’re here for you at every step of your care journey. We know you might have a lot of questions, and we encourage you to reach out at any time. We’ve also compiled patient resources to help you feel more empowered and confident before, during, and after your procedure.

Important steps for a smooth experience

Preparing for Your Surgery

When it comes to surgery, careful planning and commitment are essential on the part of the patient as well as the physician. Taking care of a few things before your surgery will ensure the process is as smooth as possible from beginning to end. We’ve created a comprehensive list of pre-surgery instructions you can review by clicking through the dropdown menu.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the MOPSS staff with any questions or concerns. We’re here to support you throughout the process, making your surgery experience as comfortable as possible.

  • Choose your surgery date with our office staff

This can be done in person or via phone (952-925-4161). If you need to cancel or change your surgery date, we ask that you do this three weeks prior to the date of surgery.

  • Call your insurance company as soon as possible.

Our office will obtain any prior authorization as required by your insurance plan. Please also call to check with your insurance company to verify your coverage and any “out of pocket” expenses.

Our office bills for the surgical services only; the surgery center or hospital, the anesthesia provider, (and possibly the pathology team if needed) will bill separately. Our office can provide billing codes as needed. Any cosmetic fees must be paid in full one week or seven days prior to your surgery date.

  • Schedule a pre-operative physical

Schedule a pre-operative physical with your primary care doctor within 30 days of your surgery date. The physician’s office performing this exam must fax the results to the location (surgery center or hospital) where you are having surgery. Without receiving this, the surgery center or hospital will cancel your surgery.

Review the list of medications/supplements that are blood thinners

If you are taking any over-the-counter medications or supplements on the provided list, you should stop these two weeks prior to surgery and not restart them until one week after surgery. If you are prescribed a blood thinning medication or anticoagulants, you must consult with your prescribing MD prior to stopping this medication. If you are unable to stop any of these medications, please discuss the risks and benefits with your MOPSS surgeon.

Arrange a ride home from surgery

When you check in on the day of surgery, the surgery center or hospital will cancel your surgery if you cannot confirm your ride home and overnight care; an Uber/Lyft or taxi is not acceptable.

embracing a calm Surgery Day

The Day Before and Day Of Your Surgery

To help feel relaxed and confident before your surgery, you’ll want to prepare ahead of time. Please be sure to follow any instructions given to you by the MOPSS team, including eliminating certain medications or fasting if required. Be sure to have a ride home and overnight care arranged so you can focus on a stress-free surgery and healing. (This is required by our surgery centers, so be sure it’s taken care of in advance.)

We’ll give you a call a couple of days before your surgery to confirm your check-in time, which is typically one hour before your scheduled surgery time. After your surgery, a registered nurse will be there to support you in the recovery room and help you prepare for your return home with clear instructions for you and your caregivers.
